The profoundly remarkable Ntozake Shange! I'm so grateful that I was blessed with the opportunity to hear and embrace her. To let her know how her extraordinary work has influenced and inspired me. To tell her I love and cherish her. The evening was transformative and one of the best Valentine's Days I've experienced.
Qoutes from the Evening:
"Despite my debilitation, in my dreams, I can dance. Every night I can fly."
"I wanted something that reached out, that flowed. I wanted something FEMALE. I did it because no one else was doing it."
On Diane McIntyre's Choreography - "Movements were more than numbers, more than bodies, they were the vocalization of your persona."
On the Black Arts movement - "We learned to write with a double consciousness so that our words didn't cut us anymore they cut others."
Advice to young writers - "Don't edit yourself, don't stop your images because you don't know the strength of them yet, what they might become."
