Scope of Position:

We are seeking an electrical design engineer with analog, RF and mixed signal experience to help turn novel materials and components into innovative components and systems. As part of the global research division, we work in interdisciplinary teams and our work supports multiple disciplines including optical communications, optical and electronic sensors and biomedical sensors. This position, Senior Research Engineer - Electrical, is in the Applied Physics group of Corning’s Science and Technology Division and located in Sunnyvale, CA. The Applied Physics team works with customers to understand the requirements of emerging applications and then designs, builds and tests novel differentiated solutions that leverage Corning technology.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Work with scientists and engineers to convert research project goals into electrical requirements.
  • Identify different architectures or design concepts that can meet challenging system requirements; use technical literature, modeling tools, and laboratory measurements to identify the best fit.
  • Design, implement, and test high performance circuits to build working prototypes. Examples of representative circuits include synchronous receivers, RF filters, preamplifiers and low power motor drivers

Required Education and Experience:

  • MS or BS in Electrical Engineering, Physics or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience.

Required Skills:

  • Experience using circuit simulation, schematic capture and PCB layout tools
  • Experience troubleshooting of board level circuit designs
  • Knowledge of electronic sensing techniques and low noise design
  • Knowledge of programming/scripting tools such as Python, Matlab, Ruby, PERL, C/C++
  • Ability to work collaboratively in multifunctional teams spread over multiple locations
  • Ability to learn new applications quickly and deeply

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with programmable logic desired

Travel Requirements:

  • < 20%, domestic and some international travel require (when pandemic conditions permit)

The range for this position is $101,478 - $139,533. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
