Optical Polisher

Position Summary

Grind, polish, and figure various optical materials to specified tolerances based on manufacturing instructions. This position is eligible for a $4.00/hour shift differential, working hours 3:00 p.m. - 1:00 a.m. with paid lunch.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Grind, polish, and figure various optical materials to specified tolerances Operate machines and conduct hand operations on optical surfaces.
• Take measurements on metrology systems such as interferometers, profilometers and microscopes Cleaning, handling, and packaging of precision optical components Perform calculations, quality tests, measurements, and inspections Read and interpret technical drawings and work instructions to aid in processing optical materials.
• Assist in maintaining productivity and efficiency Comply with all environmental, health, and safety requirements.

• Daily Standing 50% of shift Wearing protective gloves, glasses, and safety shoes; Exposure to Chemicals: Toluene, Acetone, Alcohol, and OMS Exposure to materials: Aluminum, Nickel, Zinc Sulfide, Zinc Selenide, Germanium, Indium arsenide and Silicon Polymers.

Education Requirements/Experience

• High School diploma or equivalent Two-year technical degree preferable.
• 1 to 3 years optics or polishing experience Blueprint and technical specification.
• Knowledge and Ability to see and evaluate optical surfaces.
• Demonstrated computer and mathematics skills.
