The Specialty Materials segment manufactures products that provide more than 150 material formulations for glass, glass ceramics and fluoride crystals to meet demand for unique customer needs. Consequently, this segment operates in a wide variety of commercial and industrial markets that include display optics and components, semiconductor optics components, aerospace and defense, astronomy, ophthalmic products, telecommunications components and cover glass that is optimized for portable display devices.

Job Title: Machinist Associate

Department: Mechanical Fabrication

The purpose of this position is:

• Responsible for the fabrication of mechanical components.
• Coordinates machine shop logistics.

This position includes significant duties such as:

• Performs operations in compliance with work instructions.
• Completes production logistics by moving / transacting materials and information through the production system.
• Transports materials between Corning locations and 3rd party vendors (e.g., heat treat, plating).

• Performs quality tests, measurements, and inspections.
• Prepares material.
• Interfaces with plant systems (e.g. document control, manufacturing execution system).
• Responsible for housekeeping and autonomous maintenance.
• Communicates effectively and updates/maintains records when required.
• Actively engages with continuous improvement and cost reduction programs.

Working Conditions:

• Good working conditions.
• Frequently lifts or moves materials up to 5 pounds.
• Occasionally lifts or moves materials up to 25 pounds.
• Rarely lifts or moves materials in excess of 25 pounds.
• Exposure to disagreeable elements such as oils and lubricants.

Education:

• High School Diploma or GED required.

Experience:

• No machinist experience required, though applicable experience preferred.
