Role Purpose:

Leads the development and execution of Global Supply Management (GSM) Strategic Sourcing strategies, policies, tactics and objectives for assigned complex global commodities that align and are linked with the business units, commercial, supply chain and manufacturing strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develops and/or assists with Strategic Sourcing plans and objectives (short & long term) based on forecasts of future demand and considering economic and currency trends and conditions that affect GSM, the business, and the global commodity sourced.
  • Works with the Business, GSSM, and Buyers on assigned global commodities to prepare and solicit competitive bids, quotations, and proposals with pertinent specifications, terms and conditions.
  • Develops and reviews specifications, statements of work, performance terms and accept/reject criteria.
  • Conducts negotiations with potential and/or current major suppliers to obtain maximum value.
  • Leads the development and communication of global supply intelligence for assigned commodities.
  • Owns the Supplier Relationship Management process for the assigned commodities.
  • Develops and cultivates effective relationships with suppliers.

    • Identifies and obtains resource needs based on opportunities and risks across the entire procured spend portfolio.
  • Supplier Relationship Management
    • Collects, analyzes and leverages all aspects of supplier data and GSM history, optimizing strategic sourcing and achieving significant cost savings, improved quality and or greater value add.
    • Understands and manages the flow of material and information between tiered suppliers to Corning to optimize materials or services at the lowest possible cost.
    • Works with key suppliers in developing joint planning and development of products and or processes, early in the process, aimed at reducing overall supply chain costs for both Corning and the supplier.
    • Understands supplier strategies, key drivers, opportunities and threats and how Corning impacts or is impacted by each respective area.
  • Total Cost of Ownership
    • Considers soft costs or hidden cost drivers (overhead) along with the cost impact on up/downstream processes or operations.
    • Develops processes or tools aimed at both one-time TCO analysis activities along with ongoing major processes or operation activities.
    • Analyzes the function of an item in relation to its cost.
    • Studies where the value lies in the processes that links the supply chain from the supplier to the focal firm and back to the customer.

Experiences/Education

  • Required
    • Bachelor’s Degree.
    • Experience in manufacturing ‚operations, planning, engineering, supply management, or procurement.
