Scope of Position:

Hands-on role working with a team of scientists and technicians, studying inorganic materials composition and composition - property relationships.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

• Support scientists and project teams by handling incoming materials, submitting materials for analyses, heat-treating glasses, making measurements and documenting results.
• Familiarity with glass and glass characterization is preferred.
• Clear documentation and communication of results is required.
• Experience with or ability to maintain lab equipment (furnaces, instrumentation) is necessary.
• Will maintain shared workspaces in a collaborative way.
• The candidate will be expected to grow into increased responsibility and independence.

Education and Experience:

• Associates degree in technical field.
• At least 2 years experience in a technical environment.

Required Skills:

• Daily work will be hands-on lab work, as described in day to day responsibilities.
• Forming good working relationships with characterization colleagues is expected.
• The candidate must be technically curious and self-motivated.
• Attention to detail and technical rigor are expected.
• The ability to work on multiple projects is also expected.
• The candidate should be able to grow to work independently with the guidance of senior scientists.

Desired Skills:

• Interest and the ability to operate furnaces and measurement equipment is necessary and can be obtained on the job.

Soft Skills:

• The candidate will collaborate effectively with a range of levels within the organization (management, scientists, technicians, technologist, process techs, subject matter experts in other functions such as characterization and modeling).
• Flexibility and comfort with the ambiguity of research is necessary.
• Clear communication skills are required.
