Purpose of the Position:

  • Conducting an assessment of the current manufacturing and benchmarking against relevant known in the world manufacturing capabilities.
  • Develop vision and actionable strategy for future automated optics manufacturing operation as well as comprehensive plan for a transformational program to deliver the strategy. May include systematic engineering, and machine learning to automate complex aristan processes.
  • Build high performance program team leveraging internal (R, D, E, M) and external expertise as well as new hires/contracts.
  • Lead execution of the transformational program to realize vision.
  • Extend across multiple product lines and to other plants as appropriate.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Lead program teams that are responsible to deliver robust, cost-effective automation and machine systems to Advanced Optics' manufacturing plants and processes.
  • Lead large-scale, complex projects and teams, from early innovation stage vision and concept generation, technology development, detail design/ build, and the installation into manufacturing.
  • Interface with internal R&D and manufacturing customers as well as external entities to get the systems set-up and functional.
  • Lead program teams to solve difficult engineering, automation, controls, and equipment related problems, resolve project related issues, and develop basic understanding of manufacturing requirements. Likely will include systematic engineering, AI and machine learning to automate complex aristan processes.
  • Manage a cross functional team that have been assembled to develop, design, build and install automation systems, manufacturing equipment and processes across products.
  • Actively manage the program progress and program risks to proactively mitigate critical barriers and deliver program on time.
  • Ability to work in a team-based environment and participate on a highly matrixed program team.
  • Develop a high level of fundamental understanding of the process and capabilities to enable the development of cost-effective automation systems.
  • Understand how to integrate commercially available technologies and processes to enable Corning, Inc. to develop into robust next generation process and equipment automation solutions.
  • Able to effectively leverage external machine builders and system integrators for detail design, build, and integration of later stages of machine system implementation.
  • Be responsible for the functional and operational integrity of design, estimating costs, defining scope, budget and schedule
  • Be responsible for identification of project resources necessary to complete the project tasks and coordinate the project teams efforts towards successfully achieving overall program objectives.

Education & Experience:

  • MS/PhD Mechanical, Electrical, Optics Engineering or other technical discipline with 12 - 15 years of engineering and leadership experience with demonstrated success leading program teams.

Required Skills:

  • Experience in successful development and delivery of new products and/or fully integrated process machine systems into manufacturing.
  • Proven Project Leadership experience.
  • Understand how to integrate commercially available technologies and processes into robust process manufacturing solutions.
  • Strong technical leadership skills that will enable unique solutions to the technical challenges.
  • Experience with projects requiring development of fundamental process understanding and requirements.
  • Demonstrated program leadership experience with ability to achieve results through a highly matrixed team (internal and external)
  • Ability to effectively manage highly ambiguous situations and effectively demonstrate leadership in assigned early stage through stable manufacturing implementation.
  • Ability to interface with senior leadership and provide clear concise program vision, strategies, resources need, and program updates.
  • Ability to effectively leverage external entities (equipment, process, controls, AI, etc.) in the precision optics and semicon supply chains.

Desired Skills:

Travel Requirements:

  • Yes, may include international travel. Travel may be required during installation, debug, and start-up as well as for routine interaction with internal and external Customers and Suppliers.

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:40 hrs
