In this product testing and analysis position you will develop and implement test methods and solutions for emission control systems. Primary responsibilities include experimental planning, test development, and data analysis supporting the development and application of emission control products, and potentially other future products in Corning Environmental Technologies (CET) Development. Focus will be on fundamental product understanding, experimental planning through execution, and associated data analysis. The use of test equipment to produce data packages for the business as well as being responsible for interpretation of test results with respect to emission regulations will also be needed. Additional responsibilities include providing direction to lab and test cell operations for the purpose of daily experimental troubleshooting, test planning, summarizing, and communicating results to our project teams will be needed. This information will used for advising the business toward developing next generation products with improved performance.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Design and execute experiments to meet testing objectives and respond to customer specific test requests utilizing lab and test cell teams.
  • Collaborate with various teams to conduct product benchmarking, new product performance evaluations, failure mode investigations and round robin studies.
  • Hands-on testing support in test cells, laboratories, or test vehicles to characterize new product introductions for Corning Incorporated:
    • Developing tests and test protocols to evaluate after-treatment product performance focused on: gas and particulate emissions; hydrodynamic performance; thermo-mechanical reliability; catalyst and filtration performance with regulated & non-regulated emissions cycles
    • Developing tests and test protocols to evaluate performance of new products based on need
    • Interpret data for program guidance and experimental troubleshooting. Ability to detect and trouble-shoot test bench performance variations.
  • Execute data analysis at the raw data level. Craft analysis templates and scripts that can be used during testing to efficiently report results and determine overall quality of completed tests.
  • Communicate results and provide recommendations to project teams and business management.
  • Utilize internal and commercially available modeling tool to help predict product performance. Work with internal modeling teams to provide representative data and guidance to modeling
  • Prepare, present, and publish technical documents in internal & public forums to share advancements in Corning Incorporated after-treatment technology.

Education & Experience:PhD in Mechanical / Chemical Engineering / Electrical or a related discipline.Master's degree in Mechanical / Electrical / Chemical Engineering or related discipline along with 2+ years of related work experience.

Required Skills:

  • Strong experimental, instrumentation, and trouble-shooting skills to execute hands-on mechanical, electrical solutions & calibration procedures in lab scale environments.
  • Ability to learn new topics and independently tackle problems, make data driven decisions and implement solutions.
  • Strong data analysis skills to derive conclusion from experiments.

  • Strong communication skills. Able to provide clear and concise direction to lab technicians. Able to interpret, summarize and communicate complex technical data in a concise manner.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with laboratory testing of vehicle components or similar applications. Understanding of internal combustion engines and after-treatment products/systems.
  • Familiarity with gaseous and particulate emissions equipment and associated analysis.
  • Advanced programming, design, and/or modeling skills (CAD, Axisuite, Fluent, Comsol or other simulation programs).
  • Knowledge of worldwide vehicle emission regulations and testing procedures. Ability to implement within internal or external test facilities will be helpful.
  • Familiarity with engine communication, testing and development tools such as INCA, CANape, PUMA, C#, PLC, or similar platforms.

Soft Skills:

  • Good teamwork skills including knowledge transfer and communication (oral and written).

Work Schedule:40+ hours a week during normal business hours plus off-hour support when required based on 24/7 facility operating schedule.

Travel Requirements:Limited travel (1-2 trips per year).
