Scope of Position:

  • Design and develop electrical control systems to solve significant processing and material handling opportunities for Corning Incorporated worldwide. Focus will be on the design, commissioning and start-up of new equipment or modifications of existing equipment to meet challenging objectives in material handling, process control and data acquisition in Corning manufacturing facilities worldwide.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • 这将提供一个入门级地位highly motivated, self-starter the opportunity to participate in a team to design, develop, build and commission new manufacturing processes across Corning’s seven divisions. Daily functions include:
    • Work in larger teams to design complete systems to control stability of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, mechanical motion, chemical management, robotics, power and electromechanical systems.
    • Actively participate in all phases of the project including design, fabrication, off-line integration and testing, installation, production start-up support, training of plant personnel and technology transfer. Independently follow construction of equipment in vendors’ facilities.
    • Design and integrate PLC based process and automation controls into robust manufacturing environments.
    • Develop capability in manufacturing systems for seamless part tracking and data analysis from PLC to MES & ERP.
    • Coordinate with project managers to development and implementation control systems with state-of-the-art manufacturing capabilities.
    • Work to enable productivity gains through innovative control software and hardware design implementations.
    • Collect and interpret control project needs from a variety of sources.
    • Development and deploy process and automation controls on a global scale.
    • Development of custom equipment drivers, function blocks, AOI’s etc. Enhance centralized software libraries.
    • Test validity of solutions that use traditional and advanced controls.
    • Provide associated documentation including requirements, design, budget, test plans and user guides.
    • Individual must be capable of executing project assignments in a cross-functional team-based environment.
    • Report on project activities on a pre-determined basis. Ensure results meet the customer’s requirements as well as applicable national and international equipment safety design standards.
    • Mentor and promote software development best practices.
    • Ensure coding standard compliance through Peer Code Reviews
    • Prepare, present and publish technical papers in public forums to advance personal technical reputation and Corning Incorporated

Travel Requirement:

  • >40% domestic and international travel possible.

Required Education:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or Mechatronics required.

Required Skills:

  • Well versed in electrical engineering principles.
  • Familiar with control software technology: PLC/Ladder Logic, C#, JAVA, Visual Basic, Python, etc.
  • Understanding of advanced process controls techniques: PID, Model Based, Feed Forward, etc.
  • Motivation to participate in the design, development and delivery of fully integrated control systems for automation and process controls in manufacturing.
  • Understanding of electrical panel layout, schematics, system testing and safe troubleshooting.

  • Ability to perform and document risk assessments and design safety systems in compliance with the latest safety standards.
  • Rigor in experimental execution and analysis.

Desired Skills:

  • Familiarity with IEC 61131-3 programming standards including ladder logic, function blocks (AOI’s), structured text and sequential flowchart desirable.
  • Experience with machine vision acquisition and analysis
  • Robotics (Fanuc, ABB, Epson, Motoman, etc)
  • Works well with other disciplines (process, mechanical engineering, project management)
  • Controls/Electrical Experience in Manufacturing
  • Basic project management skills (e.g. scoping, budgeting, timelines etc.)
  • Some knowledge of system engineering, process support and debug
  • Knowledge of process requirements gathering
  • Familiarity with communication interfaces (Serial, Ethernet, general IP networking)
  • Basic knowledge of processes comprised of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and heat transfer.
