The global Information Technology (IT) Function is leading efforts to align IT and Business Strategy, leverage IT investments, and optimize end to end business processes and associated information integration technologies. Through these efforts, IT helps to improve the competitive position of Corning's businesses through IT enabled processes. IT also delivers Information Technology applications, infrastructure, and project services in a cost efficient manner to Corning worldwide.


Overview:
The primary responsibility of the intern will be to assist in developing reliable and instrumented data analytics pipelines that land inbound data from multiple process and operational data stores throughout the company to cloud-based data lakes.

Intern will get an opportunity learn advanced analytics data engineering patterns, pipelines orchestration, data modelling techniques and most importantly ability to provide solutions for business problems through analytics POV’s.

Education and Experience:

  • Enrolled in B.S. or M.S. Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or Information Systems program
  • Course work completed to include programming languages like Python, R, Basics of Databases, data analytics, data science, or machine learning
  • Relevant experience a plus

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong programming skills in Python, Pyspark, Spark SQL, or Scala

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with data analysis
  • Demonstrated interest in data analytics and AI/ML

Desired Qualifications:

  • Learning knowledge of any ETL and integration tools including Informatica, Talend, dbt
  • Learning knowledge of reporting and analysis tools including PowerBI, Tableau, SAS JMP
  • Prior data manipulation experience through course work or previous internships is a plus


Primary Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Assist in developing, testing and deploying big-data analytics pipelines using established frameworks, patterns of practice, agile software development and CI/CD practices.
  • Work with cross-organizational data source teams to define data ingestion requirements for structured, unstructured, and semi-structured data, pilot their implementation, ensure the data source teams accept the resulting landed data as valid
  • Work with business users, domain experts and data scientists to define data cleansing and data enrichment requirements for landed data
  • Actively participate in code reviews and technical information sharing with your team members and the broader software engineering community at Corning

The range for this position is $1,519.00 - $3,074.00 biweekly. Starting pay for the successful applicant is prescribed based on geographic location, nature of position, and year in school.
