Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Overview:

Highly knowledgeable, high impact leader of lean manufacturing will drive a global transformational lean culture and optimize OFC's competitive manufacturing advantage.

The position is primarily responsible for assessing, developing, and deploying lean capabilities across OFC manufacturing that will drive business success.

Reporting Relationship:

  • This position reports to the Division Manufacturing Director, OFC.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Develop and/or approve operational definitions and measurement methods for all metrics associated with the Lean capability

  • Define priorities & strategy to achieve objectives over time
  • Utilize consultants as required to achieve objectives
  • Create culture supporting long-term Lean sustainability
  • Advance Lean expertise through training, mentoring, and consulting with plant and engineering leaders
  • Provide Lean understanding and value proposition to all employees
  • Establish and maintain a training program to ensure consistent practice across all employees
  • Regularly interacts with senior level managers and executives
  • Participate in Corning-wide councils and teams aimed at creating and deploying Lean capability

Required Skills:

  • Extensive experience in management of complex, cross-functional teams and initiatives across operations
  • Experience applying Lean principles in multiple manufacturing and innovation environments
  • Experience working across multiple sites and/or with other divisions
  • Project Management
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a transformation initiative
  • Demonstrated track record of delivering business results
  • Effective leadership, organization, and planning skills, with ability to handle changing priorities
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and influencing skills
  • Must be a self-starter, able to work in team environment and motivate others

Travel Requirements:

  • Domestic and International travel required, approximately 40%

Required Education:

  • Bachelor of Science or higher in Engineering field

Required Years and Area of Experience:

  • Minimum 12 years total of combined lean, supply chain, operations, or engineering experience
  • Minimum 10 years leadership experience
