The Specialty Materials segment manufactures products that provide more than 150 material formulations for glass, glass ceramics and fluoride crystals to meet demand for unique customer needs. Consequently, this segment operates in a wide variety of commercial and industrial markets that include display optics and components, semiconductor optics components, aerospace and defense, astronomy, ophthalmic products, telecommunications components and cover glass that is optimized for portable display devices.

Scope of Role:

• 米ethods, equipment, layout, workflow, time standards, capacity utilization, process/equipment improvements, and process control systems.
• 米ay involve application of knowledge and methods for understanding physical phenomena to achieve specified characteristics and criteria for products and processes. Involves organizational health and safety management systems, procedures, and programs.

Day to Day:

• Encompasses the direction and inspection of the performance of individuals or a team of associates who put together components to make assemblies, sub-assemblies, or completed units, or make or process raw materials into finished products in an industrial environment.
• Responsible for the development and implementation of activities in production area(s) to meet production goals, quality, and cost objectives.
• Prioritizes production schedules based on product introduction, equipment efficiency, and materials supply.
• Receives assignments in the form of objectives with goals and process to meet goals outlined.
• Provides direction to employees according to established policies and management guidance.
• Work is reviewed by management to measure meeting of objectives.
• Administers company policies that directly affect subordinate employees.
• Recommends changes to unit or sub-unit policies.
• Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve results will cause delays in schedules. Frequently interacts with subordinate supervisors, outside customers and functional peer groups at management levels.
• Interaction normally requires the ability to gain cooperation of others, conducting presentations of technical information concerning specific projects/schedules, etc.
• Provides general supervision to lower level supervisors and direct supervision to exempt employees and/or skilled nonexempt employees.

Education & Experience:

• We require a minimum of a Bachelor degree
• 3-5 years of manufacturing supervisory experience.
• Excellent communication skills – both oral and written.
• Track record of successful teamwork interaction in manufacturing.
• Track record of developing and implementing process improvements

Desired Skills:

• Technical curiosity
• Lean manufacturing techniques
• Glass finishing experience, and excel programming experience
